FUNd ULFA
ULFA stands for Ultra-Large-Format Alternative ( Process Camera )
So far, I’ve shot around 70 images with a prototype and am ready to take it up a notch. Now this isn't the first time someone has built a big camera, but ULFA is really special. She can lift up 6 feet in the air, tilt in any direction. She can fit through as standard doorway or the back of my truck. The film cartridge carries 40 shots. So I can shoot without interruption. And each photo is a whopping 23 by 29 inches. But the coolest thing about ULFA is HALFTONE. Halftone is a turn-of-the-century process for transferring photos to print. Now, we all have cameras in our pockets, and we can shoot and share as many photos as we want.
But halftone is symbolic because it was actually first method for bringing photography to mass media. I want to bring this part of our technological past INTO the present. And start a conversation about the way we create and value images today.
